15 things to check before renting a PG in Dehradun

See the room, name the money, and read the rules before you pay. This is a student checklist for Dehradun, not a RoomWroom inspection and not a list of approved PGs.

Graphic Era students are often looking around Clement Town. The same questions apply in other parts of the city. RoomWroom has not published a vacancy list or a rent survey.

The room

  1. The actual bed. Sit on the one that would be yours, not a better one downstairs.
  2. A lock you control. Ask who else has a key to the room and to the gate.
  3. Storage. A cupboard that closes is part of the room, not a favour.
  4. Water and bathrooms. Count people per bathroom. Run the tap. Ask what happens when the supply is off.
  5. Damp and rain. Dehradun gets a wet monsoon. Look at walls, windows, and the way water leaves the lane. Ask, do not assume.
  6. Cold months. Winters are cooler than the plains. Ask about bedding, hot water, and whether a heater is allowed.

The money

  1. Rent and the period. Month, quarter, or something else. What day it is due.
  2. Deposit. How much, who holds it, and what can be deducted. RoomWroom does not hold it.
  3. What is included. Electricity, water, food, Wi-Fi, laundry. “All inclusive” still needs a list.
  4. A receipt. Any money you pay should name you, the amount, the date, and the address.

The rules and the people

  1. Who lives there. How many, and whether the mix can change after you move in.
  2. Visitors and timing. Gate hours, guest rules, and what happens if you come back late from campus.
  3. Food. If meals are promised, ask which meals, and what happens on a day you skip them.
  4. Notice. How many days before you can leave, and whether the deposit waits until then.
  5. A written note. Names, address, rent, deposit, and the rules you were told. If they will not write it, treat that as an answer.
